Timeline of China
This is a timeline of the dynasties throughout the medieval era of China. Students work in groups of three over the course of three class periods to represent each dynasty with accomplishments and visuals.

West African Pyramids and Art
Students construct pyramids for the empires of Ghana, Mali, and Songhai. Each side depicts one empire with several aspects of the civilization summarized. In addition, many students create a piece of African Art for extra credit.

Cartography Assignment
In this project, students map an imaginary island using an explorer’s description. Latitude, longitude, compass headings, and geographic terms are highlighted.

Five Pillar Pamphlets and Ka’bah
Students explain the basic principles of Islam by creating an informational pamphlet or constructing a model of the Ka’bah in Mecca. This is one of my projects presented at the California Council for Social Studies conference in March.
